Last updated: August 2026 · Applies to Magic Rename for macOS and Windows
The short version: Magic Rename is licensed to you, not sold. Pro is an auto-renewing subscription you can cancel any time. Renaming changes files on your own computer — there is a preview before and an undo after, but keeping backups of anything irreplaceable is still your job.
These Terms govern your use of the Magic Rename applications and these pages, provided by Soft Flourish (“we”, “us”). Installing or using the app means you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use the app.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Magic Rename on machines you own or control, for personal or internal business use. You may not resell it, redistribute it, reverse-engineer it, or work around its plan limits, except where the law says such a restriction cannot be enforced.
Magic Rename is free to use, with every feature unlocked, for 3 renamed files per calendar month; the counter resets on the 1st. Analyzing, previewing, and undoing are always free and unlimited — only applying a rename counts against the allowance. Magic Rename Pro is $4.99 per month and removes the limit. There is no free trial, no watermark, and no advertising.
Pro is an auto-renewing subscription. It renews at the end of each monthly period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before that period ends. Who takes the payment depends on where you bought it:
One subscription covers every machine you sign in on, Mac and Windows together. When a subscription ends the app returns to the free tier; nothing is deleted and no file is touched.
Refunds are handled by whoever took the payment, under their policy — Apple for a Mac App Store purchase, our payment provider for a web purchase. If a refund is granted, Pro stops being available.
You are responsible for the files you process and must have the right to modify them. Do not use Magic Rename to infringe anyone's rights, to breach a confidentiality obligation, or to break applicable law.
Renaming changes files on your own computer, and we never hold a copy — so we cannot recover anything for you. The app shows every proposed name before it changes anything, and Undo Last Rename restores the batch you just applied. That undo covers one batch, and it cannot put back a file that something else has since moved, renamed, or deleted. Keep your own backups of anything irreplaceable.
Proposed names are generated from what the app can read on your machine, and it will be wrong sometimes — a photo of an unusual subject, a scan with no legible text, an empty document. That is why nothing is renamed until you approve it. Some capabilities depend on your hardware: on-device AI phrasing needs a Mac that supports Apple Intelligence or a Copilot+ PC, and where it is unavailable the app says so and uses a deterministic namer instead of substituting a cloud service.
Magic Rename, its name, icon, and design are ours. These Terms transfer none of that to you. Your files, and the names you apply to them, remain entirely yours.
The app is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any proposed name will be fit for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the app is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
We may update these Terms or the app. Material changes appear here with a new date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
You may stop using the app at any time. We may suspend or end access if these Terms are breached. Sections that should by their nature survive termination will do so.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of California have jurisdiction — except where mandatory local consumer law gives you other rights.
