The short version:your messages, attachments, and iPhone backups never leave your Mac. Message Exporter has no upload endpoint for them. Reading, previewing, and exporting all happen locally. The only data we hold is what's needed to run an account and a subscription — an email address and a plan status.
Message Exporter is developed by Soft Flourish, operated by Fenul LLC, a California limited liability company. Questions: contact us or [email protected].
We never receive, store, transmit, or process your message content, your attachments, your contact list, or the contents of an iPhone backup. All of that work — reading the local Messages database, decrypting a local backup, rendering a PDF, copying attachments, building a ZIP — happens entirely on your Mac. There is no server-side message pipeline in Message Exporter.
The app is sandboxed. It cannot read your Messages folder until you select it yourself in the standard macOS open panel, and macOS — not us — controls that grant. Contacts access is optional and used only to display names instead of phone numbers; decline it and the app still works. Full Disk Access is never requested.
If you open an encrypted local iPhone backup, the password you enter is used on your Mac to decrypt it and is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
Only in connection with your account and subscription:
For transparency, these are the only things Message Exporter talks to, and none of them carry message data:
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your card details. We use RevenueCat as our subscription-management provider to tell the app whether your plan is active.
We use a small number of processors, strictly to run accounts and subscriptions:
None of these receive your messages, attachments, or contacts.
Message Exporter contains no advertising, no third-party analytics SDKs, and no tracking. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use your data for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We keep your account record for as long as your account exists. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time via our contact form or by emailing [email protected], and we will remove it within 30 days. Deleting the app alone does not delete your account, and it does not cancel an Apple subscription — cancel that in System Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold, and to withdraw consent. Because we hold so little, these requests are usually simple — just contact us.
Message Exporter is a general-purpose productivity tool, is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Our account and subscription infrastructure is operated in the United States. Because your messages never leave your Mac, no message data is transferred anywhere.
If we make a material change, we will update this page and revise the “last updated” date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
