Everything SurfaceIQ can do, and how to get a scan you can trust.
Indicative, not certified. SurfaceIQ is a screening tool. It tells you what it measured and how confident it is, and it says plainly when a mode is not available on your device rather than guess. For a structural or safety-critical call, use a qualified professional.
Your first scan
- Choose a surface — wall, floor, panel, appliance, or vehicle.
- Hold the phone steady in good light. The capture coach's ring turns green when framing and distance are right.
- Fill the frame with the surface rather than the room around it.
- Capture. Findings appear pinned to your actual photo, each with a severity rating.
Reading a finding
Each flaw — a crack, stain, dent, patch of discoloration, or wear — is marked directly on the photo you took, not described separately. Where your device has LiDAR, a dent or bulge is measured in real distance rather than estimated from the picture; where it does not, the app says so rather than showing a number it cannot back up.
Before/after baselines
Save a scan as a baseline, then scan the same surface again later — move-in versus move-out, before a repair versus after — and SurfaceIQ shows exactly what changed between the two.
The Toolbox
A set of phone-only tools that need nothing extra to buy or plug in:
- Stud and wire finder — locate what is behind a wall before you drill.
- Tap sounding — listen for the hollow sound that flags a void or delamination.
- Moisture screening — a quick read on whether a surface is unexpectedly damp.
- Leak listener — picks up the sound pattern of a running leak.
- Vibration check — flags unusual vibration on equipment or a vehicle.
- Spirit level with floor survey — a multi-point level for checking a floor across several spots, not just one.
Exporting a report
Turn any inspection into a PDF, in a template suited to the job — a single-room scan reads differently from a full move-in walkthrough. Export from the scan's detail screen.
